India are the team to beat at the World Cup, according to Michael Vaughan who says dated Australia must change their approach to defend their title.

Virat Kohlis side comfortably beat reigning champions Australia in the first heavyweight clash of the 2019 World Cup on Sunday.

The 36-run win ensured India maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament while inflicting a first defeat on Australia, who won the World Cup on home soil in 2015.

After the victory, former England captain Vaughan said: Outstanding from India… they are the best team Ive seen in the tournament so far.

They look a very committed team. Theyve settled in the UK and Kohli has got the team buzzing. Theyre playing very well in every facet. They look like the team to beat in this tournament.

India defeated winless South Africa in their opening game and Vaughan added: Theyre a wonderful team and have every ingredient youd want to win a World Cup.

I havent seen a team throughout the tournament who doesnt look beatable but so far Id say India are at the top of the tree and are the team to beat.

After India posted 352-5 at the Oval – thanks to Shikhar Dhawans century and contributions from Kohli, Rohit Sharmi and Hardik Pandya – Australia were bowled out for 316 in the final over.
