Unai Emery has told Arsenals hierarchy that he wants to keep Aaron Ramsey and views the midfielder as an important part of the team.

The 27-year-old has just under a year remaining on his current deal and will be able to leave on a free transfer next summer if he fails to agree a new deal.

Ramsey has already returned to pre-season training under Emery.

And the Arsenal manager has been impressed with the midfielders performances and has urged Arsenal to extend his contract.

Asked why Ramsey has not signed a new deal with Arsenal, Emery replied: This is one question for the player and for the club.

Hes working with a quality, the type of ability that I want. I want to work with him.
